Oral Antivirals for COVID-19 Treatment at home
There are treatments that may help reduce how sick you become if you get COVID-19. There are now two different pills available which will allow you to be treated at home. These medications are Paxlovid and Lagevrio. Both are twice a day pills given for 5 days and have been approved by the Food and Drug administration.
Paxlovid can be taken by adults and children (12 years of age and older, weighing at least 88 pounds [40 kg]), who are at high risk for getting very sick from COVID-19 and who have mild to moderate symptoms. Lagevrio can be taken by adults 18 years and older who are at high risk for getting very sick from COVID-19 and who have mild to moderate symptoms
If you test positive for COVID-19, oral antivirals should be started no later than 5 days after your first symptoms appear. The medications are by prescription only, so contact your healthcare provider or a Test to Treat provider. This a link to find a Test to Treat location in your area Test to Treat | HHS/ASPR.
