May is Fibromyalgia Awareness month. For those of us that suffer with this condition, we think about it all year not just this month. If you know someone that suffers with fibromyalgia, Please do some research on your own and find out just how debilitating this can be for your loved one. Second Believe Them! ❤️ For years I have dealt with dry and family that never believed me, it was devastating. On top of that we deal with medical gaslighting from medical professionals that think we’re making it up as well. I will be sharing as much as I can this month as Fibromyalgia awareness is so important to me. If I can help one warrior thru this nightmare and make them see they’re not alone then my crusade has been worth it. It was never in our heads. 🥰❤️🦋💜🥰

My sister Kaye was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. She was in so much pain for many years until her death. One of my siblings thought she was "putting on". This really hurt her even more.

Navigating the world with a guide dog. 🦮

Some information from Guide/Medical Alert Dog In Training - Remy!

🦮 Guide dogs take directional commands from their handlers, indicate change in elevation, indicate and avoid oncoming traffic, navigate around obstacles, and locate objects by name. Guide dogs also use their judgement to assess the height and width of the path they are taking so the person does not bump their head or swipe their sides.

🦮 Guide dogs are trained in Intelligent Disobedience 🦮

An example of Intelligent Disobedience is refusing a command to go forward into the road if there is oncoming traffic or intersecting traffic in the team's path.

🦮 Guide dogs take roughly 18+ months to train and go through very extensive training to be able to work for their handlers. Training must be up kept even when placed!

🦮 Remember it isn’t always easy to tell if someone is blind or visually impaired. The important thing to remember is that the degree of sight loss is different for each visually impaired person. Don’t assume that all partially sighted people are totally blind. Many have some residual vision. 👁️

🦮 When a guide dog is in harness, they need to remain focused on working, Never pet a working dog, as this can distract them from their very important work!!!

“For a handler who is blind or visually impaired, distracting his or her guide dog is the equivalent of the passenger of a car grabbing the steering wheel out of a driver’s hand. “ - Guiding Eyes 🦮

We hope Remy will be able to take on the big job of being my guide in the future! He continues to train towards that goal!

Every share and interaction helps spread education and awareness! 🦮
